Relining is normally argued as a drainage repair. Seal the joints, stop the roots, no trench. All true, and on a conventional property that is the whole case.
Where the property is pumped there is a second and more expensive reason. Everything the gravity line collects goes to the pump well, and from there into the impeller.
So roots and silt entering through open joints are not just building toward a blockage. They are travelling to a machine, and material in an impeller is a mechanical repair rather than a clean-out.
That is why we look at the gravity line when a pump has started behaving oddly. Running longer than it used to, cycling more often, tripping out and needing a reset. Those are symptoms of what the line is delivering, and the reset is free while the failure is not.


That is worth a camera on the gravity line rather than another reset. It is usually telling you what it is being fed.
Lines assembled from short lengths have a join every metre or so, and each is a place roots enter and silt gets carried in.
On any property that eventually causes a blockage. On a pumped one it has somewhere much worse to go.
The gravity line delivers to the pump well, and what is in the well goes through the machine.
That converts a drainage issue into a mechanical one, at a different price and with a different lead time.

Resetting it is free, which is exactly why the underlying cause gets ignored until it stops being free.
Cured in place it is continuous along the lined section, so there is nothing left to open and nothing getting in.
It also gives back flow the line had lost to roughness and intrusion, which reduces what settles out in the well.
Pressurised pipework is assessed and repaired differently from a gravity line and is not what gets relined here.

A resin-soaked liner is drawn through the existing drain, inflated so it presses against the pipe wall along the whole length, then cured until it hardens. What results is a continuous pipe formed inside the old one, with no joints along the lined section. Joints are where roots get in and where debris enters, so removing them is the point. The old pipe stays where it is and acts as the mould, so nothing above ground is disturbed.
Because everything the gravity line collects ends up in the machine. On a conventional property, roots and silt entering through open joints are a nuisance that eventually causes a blockage. On a pumped one they travel to the pump well and then into the impeller. That turns a drainage problem into a mechanical one, which costs more and takes longer. Sealing the line upstream is genuinely protecting the pump, not just tidying up the drain.
The pump usually tells you before it fails outright. It runs longer than it used to, or cycles more often, or trips out and needs resetting. Any of those is worth investigating rather than reset-and-forget, because the reset is free and the eventual failure is not. A camera on the gravity line will show whether material is getting in and where.
Usually. What rules it out is a section that has genuinely collapsed or been crushed, or one so far gone there is nothing left to press against. A camera settles it before anyone quotes, and the footage is handed over either way. If lining will not work we say so rather than selling you one that fails.
Considerably less than the alternative. A sectional patch takes hours, a full run generally most of a working day, and it goes in through existing access points. On a property with this much level change, excavating a run is a far bigger undertaking than on flat ground, which makes no-dig worth more here than the usual tidiness argument suggests.
That is a different piece of pipework and a different conversation. A rising main is pressurised rather than gravity-fed, so it is assessed and repaired differently. What we reline is the gravity portion, which is the part that collects and delivers, and it is the part where open joints let material in.
A sectional patch over one failed joint is about $900 to $2,200. A full run is usually $3,500 to $7,000 depending on length, diameter and bends. A camera inspection is $250 to $450 and comes off the reline if you proceed. On a pumped property we will also tell you what the pump has been doing, because that is half the reason to bother.
